Career Playground
Sometimes trying something yourself is the best way to see if something's for you. At the Career Playground you'll be able to get hands-ons with various career paths and see if it's something you're interested in pursuing. While some careers are obvious, sometimes there are "hidden" career paths in unexpected places. So, spend some time in the Career Playground even if you think it has nothing to offer. Chances are, there's more to the career field than meets the eye. For example...hospitals not only employ nurses and doctors, but they also employ engineers, marketers, accountants, etc.
Go Green!
Going Green is all the rage! Go green and get hands on in Alternative Energy Lab and tour of Alfred's Green home. This zero energy demonstration home (produces excess energy) on the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville, was built by its students as a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center, Green Certified at its Gold standard (Certificate #3667). The home is an open laboratory for the public as well as students. The Net-Zero Energy Demonstration Home has three main goals: 1. to give students with real-world experience with renewable energy technology and green construction techniques 2. to showcase the high quality student work similar to homes the college has built since 1966 and demonstrate to the public that a typical-looking home can also be green 3. to provide a living laboratory for educating the future workforce in green building techniques.
