Our Purpose
You're part of our purpose. Not only do we care about the future livelihoods of our students, we care about our community and the future health of businesses in our region. We all know students grow up and become employees. Our hope is that students see the truth that a future career in Allegany County can be highly fulfilling!
Career Day will...
... develop and build connections between students and businesses in our community.
...offer students hands-on, interactive experiences that will assist them with their career exploration and continuing education planning.
...provide career exploration from organizations that support students with disabilities.
...give students opportunities to meet one-on-one with local representatives from businesses and organizations, ask questions, experience simulations and displays, and get a closer look at multiple local career opportunities.
We want our students to know that a Allegany County has a lot to offer in adult life and that they can cultivate their livelihoods HERE.
We encourage you to develop a hands-on, interactive display, as a meaningful way to share your career opportunities and proved an overview of your organization. This will allow student to engage with you and ask questions.
Some tips on engaging students...
Sometimes students are shy. Sometimes they don't know how to interact with adults. Sometimes they might not understand that the Career Day is a great opportunity for them to start to thinking about their future. Please don't hesitate to reach out to students...even if they look shy or timid. Chances are, they just don't know how to reach out to you.
Some pieces of advice...
...interactive displays and activities help visually attract students to your business.
...visual aids including models, products, etc. might assist in conversation and getting students to ask questions.
...ask students lots of questions. Good questions keep the conversation active.
..."shoot the breeze" with the students to help them feel comfortable.
...handouts and items for distribution allow the student to walk away from something that might help them remember your conversation at a later date.
...We are asking that all Exhibitors remain set up until 1:30 to accommodate the Allegany Chamber of Commerce Conference.
